Here's how it works...
When a psychotherapist first meets with a patient, he shares much in common
with the creative artist beginning to develop a character. Similar to the
therapist, the creative artist may know very little about his character.
The creative artist and the therapist are both interested in understanding
human nature, and one can never fully understand the personality formation
of any character unless you first understand the formative experience. Everyone,
fictional or not, has a maturation level which determines his ego strength,
his susceptibility to psychopathology, and the prefiguring of his life choices.
